Folks, if you don’t want people to start losing their tempers with you, then please read the emails we send you.

As previously mentioned on these pages, PremiumTV have started making life difficult for Mac users who wish to listen to the 16kbps radio commentaries online. The commentary does, in fact, work yet it gives an error message claiming that Internet Explorer 5 and Windows are required.

I have asked Premium TV why they have cancelled my account and whether they would mind explaining this new policy. Their support staff have told me that all the streaming media is DRMed in order to prevent its appearance on ‘video sharing websites’. Er, hello. This is audio.

And it does work.

The Methodist Church has a significant role in ensuring that this continues.”

Over on SonyStyle.com, the Alpha, its lens line-up and other accessories can be seen along with the launch price (in the US) of the ?100 which will be $999. This is identical to the current retail price of the DSC-R1.

Bearing in mind that the R1 is currently on sale with Warehouse Express for £559, I guess that will be roughly how much we will be expected to pay for the new SLR.

I’m excited at the prospect of this new camera and, in particular, the lenses which include, for example, the Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* 135mm f/1.8 (heaven only knows what that lens will cost but I expect it to be out of my price range!).

It remains to be seen whether Sony have managed to keep noise levels down to a decent level on the 10 megapixel sensor. From a review of the R1, that camera appears to have been able to hold its own against the EOS 350D and the E-500. The dynamic range of the R1 is not quite so good as that of the 350D (nothing in it at ISO 100 but down to 7.6 EV vs. 5.2 EV at ISO 1600).

Right now, I cannot afford the camera. However, I know exactly what I’m now saving up for, reviews pending.

A Preston pub managed by the Spirit Group has been fined after environmental health officers found 5cm of grease on the kitchen floor and mouse droppings in a children’s play area.

The Toy Soldier Pub, in the town’s Deepdale Retail Park, was ordered to pay £22,739 in costs and fines after admitting a number of offences.

The EHO who led the investigation, Simon Neighbour, said it was the worst case he had seen in 10 years in the job. The pub was closed in April last year following the inspection but reopened four days later once improvements were made.

Armed robbers attack two houses in Cape Coast

Cape Coast April 21, GNA- Armed robbers numbering about five, in the early hours of Wednesday robbed two houses at Nkanfoa, near Cape Coast and took away more than 20 million cedis cash, five mobile phones and some jewelry.

Mr Albert Onwona- Agyeman, regional police commander who made this known to the GNA in an interview at Cape Coast on Thursday, said no arrests have so far been made and that the police were doing everything possible to arrest the robbers.

He said the armed robbers stormed the house of one Madam Justina Asiedu, and fired a warning shot when members of her household began to shout, while they used blocks to break the door leading to the house and robbed her of 850,000 cedis, two mobile phones and some jewelry.

He said the robbery, took less than 10 minutes and the robbers then moved to the house of one Madam Mary Korkor and also robbed her of 20 million cedis three mobile phones and some jewelry.

Mr Onwona-Agyeman expressed concern about the increase of armed robbery in the municipality of late, and urged the public to inform the police of the activities armed robbers.

DETECTIVES probing Britain’s biggest cash heist are questioning a third person, following the earlier arrest of a woman after she tried to open a bank account with £6000 in cash, it emerged today.

Police hunting the six-strong armed gang behind the theft of an estimated £50m from a Tonbridge Securitas depot on Wednesday arrested a 41-year-old woman at a building society in Bromley, south London, yesterday, Kent Police said.

…

It has been reported the woman was caught after she attempted to start a building society account with bundles of cash bound with tape marked “Tonbridge”, prompting stunned staff to keep her talking while they summoned the police.
