I’ve finally managed to complete the last of the Platinum races at Super Excite level. Without wanting to give too much away to those who haven’t done it yet, try the tree runs.

The solitary Diamond race is actually quite simple: it took a couple of attempts to get the requisite B grade. Should I manage to get S grades on all the Super Excite races, I shall manage to unlock Mirror mode.

(No, I haven’t even begun to run out of bad puns yet.)

Super Excite

Well, I finished Excite level today on the game of the moment with S-grades on all the races. Mastering air spins helped to eke out the final few points necessary on some of the tracks and discovering that Rad has, to my taste at least, the right balance of air, grip, handling and speed helped me to nail the fifty-point winning bonuses.

The game continues to be the only racing game (other than Mario Kart 64) that Kate’s been willing to play against me more than once. What makes the two player split screen mode quite hard is that, even on a widescreen television, the view is narrower than I would like.

Excite Truck: Platinum

After a lot of repeated efforts led to me not completing the second of the Platinum races in Excite Truck, I followed Kate’s advice and did some more of the tutorial.

Having learnt how to fly the trucks, I finished Platinum tonight only to discover that I need to complete all the races with an S grade in order to progress to Super Excite level, which I assume will be superbly exciting.

The two player mode has also demonstrated that, although I am quite consistently quicker than Kate, she drives with more style.

If that’s what Nice crash means.

It’s frustrating to finish first only to find that I’ve run out of points-scoring (read: crashing) opportunities and have, therefore, lost.

Excite Truck

Meet the Robinsons, which just wasn’t my kind of game, today turned into the thirteen pound note that made Excite Truck that bit more affordable. I would be lying if I claimed that it’s very hard: I completed the Bronze and Silver levels tonight after a little confusion caused by trying to hold the Wiimote as I had been doing for GT Pro Series, a game, incidentally, which I completed in record time.
The Wii really needs a better racing game.
