Religion for consenting adults in private

The Liberal Dissenter seems to be one of those who believe it’s alright to hold certain views and, as a fine example of his liberalism, this may even be combined with the exercise of political power.
A fine example of the calibre of this individual’s critical mind is demonstrated in the following:
As a confirmed atheist, I regard religion as being on an intellectual par with a belief in fairies at the bottom of the garden. As a confirmed Liberal, I respect other people’s rights to hold whatever beliefs they choose, no matter how ridiculous.
It is when demented beliefs enter the public sphere that we should be worried. Religion, like sex, is a matter for consenting adults in private. When personal faith gets mixed up with the exercise of political power, there are usually tears before bedtime.
LD commits the classic dumb atheist blunder of believing that all religious believers are crackpot fundamentalists. It’s odd: I don’t know of a single Christian who believes all atheists are as illiberal as LD.
