Blog Ministry » Churches still in Web 1.0: “What is the difference between Web 1.0 and Web 2.0?
The web 1.0 attitude is that the Internet was (and still is in many cases) a platform for attention. People viewed the Internet as a place to promote much like a magazine or newspaper. This is not a necessarily wrong attitude, but it is wrong if it is the only attitude you have. The web is capable of much more than a home page that promotes a Church.
The Web 2.0 attitude revolves around the fact that the Internet can be used to service. This isn’t an attitude that has just sprung up, there were many examples of Web 2.0 before the term was invented, such as the classic Amazon which recognised that the web could be used to provide service.
How does this relate to Church Websites?
The attitude of Web 2.0 follows closely the attitude of Jesus. If we look at the gospels, Jesus showed what his relationship was like with God to the people he met through his actions. He captured people’s attention through his service to people not just what he said. He touched a man suffering with leprosy, he washed peoples feet and he even died for us. Do you see where I am heading?”
