I take it you are a Southend man in exile up there?

In our first season in the Old Division One, when the Blues had a little argument with the local press and banned the Echo from coming, the club gave me a press photographers pass and I had a few photos published in the club programme.

I think the games I remember best are Southend beating Aston Villa 1-0 in the FA Cup (first round I think when they were in the old Division 3 for a season), beating Stockport 4-1 back in the 60s (only time I’ve seen them score 4) and Simon Royce’s debut against Fulham.

I really ought to go again , I might try to get to the Southend – Scunthorpe match on March 10th.
