There is a strong rumour tonight that the government (or maybe it’s the Labour Party) has tonight taken out an injunction against the BBC to prevent the reporting of something substantive regarding the Cash for Honours Inquiry.
This is now being reported on BBC News at Ten. I’m intrigued. I’m also convinced that the information will find its way out on to the internet somewhere. If it does, I want to find it.
A Conservative’s blog: Cash for Peerages, has there been an injunction?
the BBC has unearthed an email, connected to the cash for peerages inquiry. This email has allegedly got Lord Levy‘s hands all over it.
The plot thickens on Chris Doidge’s blog:
Interestingly, the BBC accompany this story with a picture of Ruth Turner, the head of Government Relations who has been arrested in relation to the Cash for Honours saga.
It sounds like something big could be brewing.
Edit (22:20): I’m convinced the story’s to do with Ruth Turner. The photo’s disappeared.
Of course, the Ruth Turner thing could simply mean that a sub-editor at the Beeb knew that a photo was needed and just kept whatever picture had last been used to do with the story.

The Guardian quotes a spokesman for Lord Goldsmith as saying:
Lord Goldsmith— a member of the Cabinet— was acting independently of the Government in seeking the injunction yesterday afternoon, said the spokesman.
The application for an injunction was made by the Attorney General at the specific request of and in co-operation with the police, because of their concern that disclosure of certain information at this stage would impede their inquiries,he said.
The Attorney General acted in this respect completely independently of Government and in his independent public interest capacity.
<cynic> But he would say that, wouldn’t he? </cynic>
However, Benedict White has more:
The BBC is now reporting that the AG applied for the injunction on behalf of the Metropolitan Police. This seems a bit odd. Normally the press can get away with reporting all the sordid details of a case right up until charges are laid, when it becomes sub judecea (sic) and they have to be very careful.
This fact alone will lead to huge amounts of speculation. For a start it seems to imply the police are close. It seems to say Yates of the Yard is very close to saying
your nicked my beauty!to some poor unfortunate canary who will not doubt then sing like a bird!
