Over on Peter’s bike rides, I learn of Eddington numbers.

My Eddington Number is now about 14, which is great; considering it must have been about 4 at the start of 2006 I’m really pleased!

“The physicist Arthur Eddington was something of a numerologist in later life, as well as a keen cyclist. He kept a note of something he called his Eddington Number (E), where E = the highest number of days in your life on which you have cycled more than E miles. When he died, his E was 87.”

I have no idea what my Eddington number is. It’s clearly more than ten. Shamefully, I don’t know whether I have actually cycled more than 20 miles more than 20 times. Maybe I should set myself a target of 30 by the end of the summer.
