I don’t hate iCal. But you must admit, it really is crap. Sadly, I’ve never yet found a good alternative that fully satisfies my requirements.

I need to be able to synchronise calendars with my Palm for when I’m out.

I need multi-user access to this calendar so that Kate and I can each add, delete and edit events.

It strikes me that the most sensible place to store such calendar information is on the internet, since that would avoid some of the current challenge with synchronisation. A properly-implemented online calendar system, where some calendars can be public and some private, some can be modified by just their owner and some by a group of authorised users, would be, IMHO darned handy.

Does anyone know of a solution that would not cost me serious money? If serious money must be spent, would it truly be worth my while?

Following a suggestion on ucsm, I installed and had a look at Now Up-to-Date: the #1 Calendar and Contact Management software for business and power users! Cross platform group meeting scheduling for both Macintosh and Windows.
Sadly, this software costs $120 per computer. I think perhaps I’ll leave it and hope that the Mozilla Calendar project produces some results soon.
